Babies & Infant Swim Teacher

Today, more than 1,100 people are part of our Yarra Swim School community every week. Many of the parents bringing their children to lessons first learnt to swim here themselves. Seeing those families return with the next generation is something we're incredibly proud of.

We're a community-managed swim school where relationships matter. We're now looking for the right person to lead our Parent and Infant Program and help continue a program that's trusted by local families.

ABOUT THE ROLE

We're looking for a Babies and Infant Swim Teacher to work with children aged six months to three years.

You'll lead our Parent and Infant Program, teaching small classes with a parent or carer in the water. While the program is already well established, we're looking for someone who'll bring their own ideas, songs, games and teaching style to help shape its future.

The role is a permanent Saturday position (minimum four hours), with opportunities to teach other learn-to-swim classes when required and the potential to take on additional responsibilities over time.

WHAT YOU'LL BE DOING

  • Teach 30-minute Parent and Infant classes.
  • Create fun and engaging lessons for babies and toddlers.
  • Support children through their first experiences in the water.
  • Build positive relationships with families.
  • Contribute ideas to continue developing the program.

You'll need:

  • AUSTSWIM or Swim Australia Teacher of Swimming and Water Safety qualification (or willingness to obtain).
  • Infant and Preschool Aquatics qualification (or willingness to obtain).
  • Current CPR certificate.
  • Current Working with Children Check.

Lifeguard  

Expressions of Interest

Our lifeguards play an important role in creating a safe and welcoming environment for everyone who visits Yarra Swim School.  They are often the first people families see when they arrive. They're an important part of creating a safe, friendly and welcoming environment for everyone who visits.

Key Responsibilities

  1. Conduct rostered pool tests and pool maintenance to ensure full compliance with Health Department Regulations;
  2. Ensure the water space at the Centre is supervised in accordance with guidelines for safe pool operations.
  3. Assist in the cleaning and maintenance schedules including regular audit checks of standards.
  4. Act as duty manager when rostered or as directed and ensure all shift staff comply with Centre procedures and policies including customer relation requirements, pool supervision standards and cash handling requirements.

REQUIREMENTS OF THE POSITION​

Essential

  • Must be at least 18 years old.
  • Pool Life Guard Certificate.
  • CPR and First Aid Certificate.
  • Experience in pool testing.
  • Current Working with Children Check.

Desirable

  • Austswim Registration is highly regarded.

SELECTION CRITRIA

Together with energy, enthusiasm and commitment, successful applicants will be able to demonstrate:

  1. Ability to work as an effective, positive team member and manage own time, set priorities and balance competing (and sometimes conflicting) demands in a flexible team and customer-focused environment.
  2. Ability to provide accurate and timely advice to customers in a pleasant and helpful manner.
  3. Sound knowledge of statutory regulations, codes of practice and legislation pertaining to the execution of the Pool Attendant’s duties.

Yarra Plenty Waves is one of the most successful community swimming clubs in Melbourne's north and has been helping local swimmers achieve their goals for more than 40 years.

As the competitive pathway of Yarra Swim School, our club supports swimmers from their first races through to regional, state and national competition. Just as importantly, we're committed to helping every swimmer build confidence, resilience, friendships and a lifelong love of the sport.

We're looking for an enthusiastic Assistant Coach who enjoys working with young people and wants to make a positive difference, both in and out of the pool.

About the role

Working alongside our Head Coach and coaching team, you'll help deliver engaging, high-quality training sessions that support swimmers of different ages and abilities.

This is an opportunity to develop your coaching skills in a supportive environment while helping swimmers reach their individual goals.

Your role will include

  • assisting with squad coaching and training sessions

  • delivering engaging, well-planned coaching activities

  • supporting swimmers to improve their skills, confidence and performance

  • encouraging a positive, inclusive and team-focused environment

  • working closely with coaches, swimmers and families

  • contributing ideas to continue developing our squad program
