Event detailsdate: Wednesday 11 February We can't wait to see you at the pool! |
| Is this a competition? | No. Race Night is not a competition. There are no winners, placings, or pressure. The focus is on learning and confidence. |
| Does my child have to race? | No. Swimmers are encouraged to have a go, but they can watch first, ask questions, and take part at their own pace. |
| What if my child is nervous? | That’s completely normal. Many swimmers attend Race Night for their first race-style experience. Our coaches explain what will happen and support swimmers step by step. |
| Does my child need to be fast or experienced? | Not at all. Race Night is about learning, confidence, and trying new skills, not speed or results. |
| Who will be helping the swimmers? | YPW coaches will be on pool deck, with club swimmers in the water to guide, support, and encourage each swimmer. |
| Is this suitable for learn-to-swim swimmers? | Yes, as long as swimmers are comfortable swimming 25 metres independently. |
| What should my child bring? | Swimmers should bring their usual swimmers, towel, goggles, and a drink bottle. |
| My child has attended Race Night before, should they come again? | Yes. Many swimmers attend Race Night more than once. Each session helps reinforce race skills, confidence, and understanding of what a race feels like. |
| Will it be the same as last time? | The structure will feel familiar, but swimmers often gain more confidence each time. Coaches support swimmers at their own level and help them build on what they already know. |
| What if my child was nervous last time? | That’s very common. Many swimmers feel more relaxed and confident the second time once they know what to expect. |
| Does attending again mean my child is expected to join the club? | No. There is no expectation to join the club. Race Night is simply an opportunity to practise skills and build confidence. For swimmers who enjoy the experience and are keen to take the next step, joining a squad is something we encourage and welcome. Our coaches are always happy to chat with families about pathways and options, and swimmers can explore this in their own time and at their own pace. |
| I’m still unsure, who can I talk to? | Please feel free to chat with our swim school team or coaches. We’re happy to help you decide if Race Night is right for your child. |
